AUSTIN, TEX. — The New Confederate Department of Capitalism announced today that it has created a new pathway for immigrant workers, known as the “fixed-term servitude” visa.

However, human rights groups are warning that the program resembles indentured servitude, if not outright slavery.

The visa would permit employers to enter into fixed contracts of four to six years, during which workers would receive lodging, meals, and a clothing stipend. In exchange, they would work for the duration of their contract, unless their employer arranged to sell or trade the contract midway with a different employer.

At the end of the contractual period, the worker would receive a work permit and provisional legal status, so long as their employer certifies to the government that the contract was fulfilled satisfactorily.

“The New Confederacy is a land of opportunity, and we are so excited to say that an honest day’s work will be rewarded again,” said Capitalism Secretary Sam Altman.

In a statement, the New Confederate Rights Project said it had “grave concerns” about the visa.

“This appears to give employers an incredible amount of power over their employees on a scale approaching chattel slavery,” the group said. “At the very least, it is indentured servitude by another name and will likely lead to poorly informed and desperate noncitizens signing away their rights to the exclusive benefit of wealthy industrialists. This is a dark day.”
