AUSTIN, TEX. — The New Confederate Department of the Treasury announced today that mosques will no longer qualify as tax-exempt nonprofit entities.

“We think it’s important that houses of faith remain free from government taxation. Unfortunately, the data is overwhelming that these mosques are hotbeds of extremism and hostile political ideology,” said Treasury Secretary Jared Kushner.

The Treasury also announced an “audit” of other faith houses to determine if they are eligible for continued tax exemptions. The list includes Catholic parishes, mainline Protestant denominations, and synagogues. Evangelical denominations are not subject to the audit.

Among other criteria, the government will examine organizations’ “loyalty” to “patriotic values” and the percentage of foreign-born members. They will also need to register with iReport, the national government’s intake system for tips about wokeness or speech critical of the government, and promptly respond to any complaints.

The Atlanta-based Institute for Christian Nationalism issued a statement supportive of the move.

“The New Confederacy has stood for purity since its Founding. There is no need to pollute our national identity by making accommodations for barbaric ideologies and socialist perversions of the Christian Gospel,” the institute said.
